Some people view suicide as proof of free will.
They argue that assuming by virtue of evolution, suicide shouldn't exist now, because all those who have died by means of suicide have their genes terminated from the genepool.
As such, remaining human beings are genetically incapable of the idea of suicide.
But yet suicides still exist. Because people actually have a choice.

However there are two major flaws in this argument.

1. The argument leaves out genetic mutation. It also assumes that the individuals committed suicide before producing progeny.

2. People do not actively seek death simply as an act. They seek death to avoid things.
To avoid pain, to avoid suffering. And by virtue of evolution, the instinct to avoid pain and suffering can never be erased. Such instinct is the cause of most suicides and as such negates the idea that suicide is an act of free will.

Achievement requires long term planning, loads of hardwork, sacrifices and a lot of displeasure during its course.

You cannot experience life in its full glory if you strive to Achieve, for the fundamental principles required for any decent Achievement would negate the value of any positive experience.

To work hard is to spend time experiencing displeasure.

Every conceivable idea for the purpose of the universe has already been put forth.
Does this mean that at least one of these ideas is true?
If so, that would mean that human beings are capable of reading the mind of God.

I overhead a duo's conversation on the train two days ago.
One of them said "A prophet is someone who has a special relationship with God"

What? The perfect and all-mighty shows favouritism?

'Punishment' is a very humanistic concept. A very flawed human idea to equalise moral injustice.

Primal human desire drives one to inflict harm in vengeance. To equalise the wrong that the individual perceives to have been committed upon him. That is punishment.
Punishment does not undo whatever harm that has already been done.
Punishment simply satisfies the individual's primal lust for vengeance.

God does not punish.
The only other purpose punishment serves is to act as a deterrent. To discourage future wrong-doings.
Now why would God punish when punishment does nothing to alleviate the original suffering upon the victim?
Why would God punish when punishment can serve no deterrent after death?
With reincarnation, deterrence would be rendered void if there is no memory after each rebirth.
If an individual goes to Purgatory to be punished for his sins, where would the deterrent be when the individual reaches heaven where he can do no further harm?

Although one might argue that the deterrence is meant for the living, I ask this:
Would it not help to strengthen the deterrence by validating the concept of God's divine punishment?
God would not leave the afterlife as a 'question mark' if he intends his deterrence of sin to be effective.

Punishment is a human concept, not that of God's.

Free Will is the idea that rational agents (ie. humans) can exercise control over their actions and decisions without being influenced by any external factors like biological self-preservation mechanisms (instincts).

However, in order to preserve the life of an organism, free will has to be limited and at times replaced by innate reflexes and instincts to respond to environmental changes accordingly.

So paradoxically, the only way for free will to exist is to limit free will. By limiting free will, an organism would be driven by instinct and have a higher chance at survival. With a longer lifespan, the organism would then have more opportunities to exercise the freedom of its will.

So then let's look at the two extreme situations in this case:

Suppose an individual is born into the world and is totally devoid of instinct.
And the first decision the individual makes is to commit suicide.
His life lasted 5 seconds, but he had total control over his life.

Now suppose another individual is born without free will at all.
Being totally instinct-driven his sense of self-preservation aids in his survival.
His life lasted 100 years, but he had no control over his life.

Now, which one had more fun? With inclusion of the condition that both said individuals were sentient beings. Obviously the bloke who lived for 5 seconds couldn't have experienced as much as the other bloke.

Thefore in conclusion, Free Will is imporant, but compared to Sentience it's not much.
Rarely is anyone born with an even mix of free will and instinct that will bring the value of his life to the maximum.

I got bored and instead of studying for my test tomorrow I decided to try and see if I can prove that everything is nothing.

Let's imagine infinity.
Now let's imagine an infinite amount of time; Eternity.
We all remember our days in school where the teachers would say that values without units are pointless correct?
Therefore in this case the value is Infinite, and the unit is Time. Infinity*Time = Eternity.

Now let us imagine Eternity.
Agree that anything that exists in Eternity will hold no true value;
Imagine you living for Eternity in an isolated room, pointless isn't it?
Therefore Eternity is meaningless and holds no value.
Eternity is simply Infinity in a specific frame, in this case Time.
Therefore Eternity can also be said to be Infinity.
And since Eternity holds no value, Infinity can be said to hold no value as well.

So we now have Infinity = Zero.

The school of thought that is more disruptive to humanity is not nihilism, but hedonism.

Regarding A Particular Chainmail

So there's this particular chainmail that's been going around for quite some time and as somewhat of a philosopher I'd just like to say a few words about it.

The mail goes as follows:

This is a true story of something that happened just a few years ago at USC.

There was a professor of philosophy there who was a deeply committed atheist.

His primary goal for one required class was to spend the entire semester to
prove that God couldn't exist.

His students were always afraid to argue with him because of his impeccable logic.

Sure, some had argued in class at times, but no one had ever really gone against him because of his reputation.

At the end of every semester on the last day, he would say to his class of 300 students, 'If there is anyone here who still believes in Jesus, stand up!'

In twenty years, no one had ever stood up. They knew what he was going to do next. He would say, 'Because anyone who believes in God is a fool'.

If God existed, he could stop this piece of chalk from hitting the ground and breaking Such a simple task to prove that He is God, and yet He can't do it.'

And every year, he would drop the chalk onto the tile floor of the classroom and it would shatter into a hundred pieces.

All of the students would do nothing but stop and stare.

Most of the students thought that God couldn't exist. Certainly, a number of Christians had slipped through, but! For 20 years, they had been too afraid to stand up.

Well, a few years ago there was a freshman who happened to enroll.

He was a Christian, and had heard the stories about his professor.

He was required to take the class for his major, and he was afraid. But for three months that semester, he prayed every morning that he would have the courage to stand up no matter what the professor said, or what the class thought.

Nothing they said could ever shatter his faith...he hoped.

Finally, the day came. ! The professor said, 'If there is anyone here who still believes in God, stand up!' The professor and the class of 300 people looked at him, shocked, as he stood up at the back of the classroom.

The professor shouted, 'You FOOL!!!

If God existed, he would keep this piece of chalk from breaking when it hit the ground!'

He proceeded to drop the chalk, but as he did, it slipped out of his fingers, off his shirt cuff, onto the pleat of his pants, down his leg, and off his shoe. As it hit the ground, it simply rolled away unbroken. The professor's jaw dropped as he stared at the chalk. He looked up at the young man, and then ran out of the lecture hall.

The young man who had stood, proceeded to walk to the front of the room and shared his faith in Jesus for the next half hour. 300 students stayed and listened as he told of God's love for them and of His power through Jesus.

1. The mail doesn't state the name of the "professor of philosophy". Which would kinda help it's credibility.

2. A good philosopher wouldn't commit to any singular and definite idea of God. Clearly nullifying any statement the 'professor of philosophy' has made as he commits to a singular idea that God doesn't exist.

3. This mail portrays God in a Judeo-Christian sense. Very biased.

4.
